Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Director of Clinical Informatics supports the Chief Nurse Informatics Officer (CNIO) in strategic planning, project management and implementation of clinical and informatics solutions to improve patient care, clinician experience, and nursing operations and practice. He/she is an experienced customer-service oriented healthcare leader responsible for overseeing, developing, and planning clinical informatics resources to meet the needs of a growing health system. Reports to the Chief Nurse Informatics Officer (CNIO) and works closely with nursing leaders, quality leaders, hospital based front line staff leaders, the IT/IS organization, physician informatics and health informatics leadership. Provides leadership to advance the professional nurse organization across the system, with a focus on standardization of nursing documentation and practice, in conjunction with Piedmont’s strategic priorities as outlined on the Plan on the Page. Participates in the planning and execution of nurse informatics projects ensuring successful implementation and adoption. Champions and/or leads complex clinical projects that drive standardization to best practices, clinician efficiency, and the optimal clinician experience in collaboration with operational, clinical, and health informatics leadership. These initiatives will be coordinated to support internal and external quality metrics, clinical workflow optimization for the Piedmont Facilities, Piedmont Clinic, PHC’s Quality, Safety, Service committee and Clinical Governance Councils. Coordinates between Information Services and Organizational Leadership of Facilities and Physician Enterprise to ensure alignment. Facilitates deployment of clinical and administrative information at the enterprise level, aligned with Operations Groups, within the organization. Provides leadership and direction for the IS Clinical Informatics team to ensure optimal use of the EHR.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Supports the strategic alignment priorities of the CNIO.

2.Supports the collection, analysis and interpretation of data to improve nursing/clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.

3.Collaborates with nursing leadership, IT staff and other stakeholders to identify needs and implement solutions.

4.Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical regarding nursing and clinical informatics initiatives.

5.Serves as a liaison between nursing/clinical and IT.

6.Serves as a stand in for the CNIO as required.

7.Proven ability to manage individuals and teams at both the enterprise and entity-based level.

8.Can effectively translate clinical needs into technical requirements.

9.Ensures execution of programs, design/build, and continuous improvements are executed in a timely manner.

10.Leverages principles of design to ensure optimal system usability, drive efficiency and improve overall clinician experience with clinical IS systems. level

11.Works collaboratively with other IS leaders to drive integration activity and implement EHR applications and other clinical technologies.

12.Advocates use of clinical information systems for clinical decision support and evidence-based practice

13.Provides communication regarding the team’s initiatives top down and bottom up.

14.Works with local champions to ensure standardized communications, implementation, and involvement in project activities.

15.Assures all communications to clinical staff are clear, consistent, timely, and aligned with initiative objectives.

16.Provides informatics-based clinical review of plans for testing, training, hardware and support of clinical IT initiatives.

17.Works in partnership with clinical, administrative, and IT leadership to translate clinician requirements

into information system configuration, workflows, and reporting tools.

18.Responsible for long-term resource planning in coordination with enterprise needs.

19.Help to bring the best out of direct reports, team members, key partners.

20.Develops, implements, updates, and maintains application documentation.

21.Use policies, standards, and procedures where appropriate to improve quality, patient safety and

productivity.

22.Provides overall management of the IS Clinical Informatics team.

23.Participates in development of annual IS department business plan.

24.Works with other IS management representatives to establish and coordinate department standards

and priorities.

25.Participates in development of annual IS capital and operating budget.

26.Develop goals and mentors' staff as appropriate.

27.Identifies and develops metrics to support quality design and build.

28.Conducts analyses and develops reporting tools to support decision making, track improvement and demonstrate value in programs and initiatives.

29.Provides program management for multiple quality teams and initiatives.

30.Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Seven (7) years of progressive leadership at an enterprise level, to include professional work experience directing, leading and/or managing clinical, informatics, nursing, pharmacy or a team in a closely related to nursing/clinical informatics.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

Clinical License in the state of Georgia

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in nursing or informatics or field related to the role preferred. Preferably experience in a multi-facility healthcare environment.
