Compensation:

  • Annual Salary Range: $40,000 – $42,000 Per Year

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

This position will remain posted until filled. Candidates must be located in one the following Kansas counties : Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Crawford, Elk, Franklin, Greenwood, Johnson, Labette, Linn, Lyon, Miami, Montgomery, Neosho, Osage, Wilson or Woodson. Preferred counties are Allen, Anderson, Coffey, Neosho, Wilson or Woodson.

  • Conduct inspections and collect samples of feed in accordance with established procedures. Submits samples to the laboratory for analysis and take appropriate enforcement action when product does not comply with established standards. Follow-up inspections for stop sales as appropriate.
  • Conduct Current Good Manufacturing Practices inspections at facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold animal food under State and Federal authority. Conduct preventive controls inspections as required by workplan. Conduct inspections to determine compliance with medicated feeds, veterinary feed directive, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Conduct inspections to determine compliance with state and federal feed labeling laws.
  • Complete inspection reports, complaint reports, investigation reports and all other reports in an accurate, legible, and concise manner. Enter inspection data into the database and submit reports to office.
  • Investigates consumer complaints; testify in administrative hearings and in court cases pertaining to violations of Kansas laws and regulations.

This position will require the employee to travel regularly and stay out overnight on some occasions in order to use state resources efficiently.

This position is a home-based position. The applicant that is selected for this position will start each workday from his/her home.

Qualifications:

  • Professionally minded individuals with up to four years direct experience related to milling science & management, animal science or any close related fields is preferred. Candidates may also qualify through a combination of relevant work experience, training or certification.
  • Experience in understanding the inner workings of various types of feed mills preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of feed mill operation experience preferred.
  • Two years of regulatory work preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with diverse groups of partners (e.g. state agencies, federal agencies and other operating groups).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
  • Upon hire, the candidate will be required to pass a Federal background check for FDA Commissioning.

Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
