A respected construction company in San Antonio is seeking an experienced Safety Manager with specialized, hands-on expertise in Trenching & Excavation (T&E) . This is not a general safety role — we are looking for a technical subject matter expert who can take ownership of excavation safety and protective systems on active construction sites.

This high-impact, standalone leadership position is ideal for a safety professional who thrives in the field, is confident in their technical knowledge of trench safety systems , and can effectively partner with site teams and general contractors to ensure full OSHA compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the company’s Trenching & Excavation safety subject matter expert , ensuring T&E operations comply with OSHA 1926 Subpart P (Excavations).

• Conduct detailed audits and field inspections focused on trench safety, soil classifications, and proper use of protective systems.

• Develop and deliver Trenching & Excavation specific safety training and toolbox talks to field teams and subcontractors.

• Coordinate directly with field leadership and GCs to plan safe trench operations and proactively address hazards.

• Investigate incidents, manage corrective action plans, and lead root cause analysis for trench-related events.

• Maintain accurate safety records and logs using safety management platforms (e.g., Safety HQ, Samba Safety).

Qualifications:

• Extensive, hands-on experience in Trenching & Excavation safety — this is essential. General safety knowledge is not sufficient for this role.

• Strong working knowledge of protective systems for excavation.

• 5+ years in a Safety leadership role within civil, utility, or heavy construction.

• Proven ability to work independently in the field, lead safety initiatives, and coordinate with GCs and field crews.

• Deep understanding of OSHA 1926 standards , with a focus on Subpart P (Excavations).

• Safety certifications preferred: OSHA 30, OSHA 500/510, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER

• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Other Details:

• Full-time, San Antonio-based role with daily travel to local construction sites.

• Must be comfortable in active construction environments.
